The Stenographer Who Married Dostoyevsky — and Saved Him From Ruin - The New York Times

THE GAMBLER WIFE A True Story of Love, Risk, and the Woman Who Saved Dostoyevsky By Andrew D. Kaufman In the spring of 1880, in the midst of what felt like a political tipping point, a new monument dedicated to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was unveiled in Moscow. They smoked cigarettes, cut their hair short, preferred Feuerbach to romance novels and spurned marriage in favor of careers in science and medicine (or, occasionally, terrorism). Everyone could sense that Russia was on a collision course with itself, and few feared the potential outcome more than Fyodor Dostoyevsky. At the unveiling ceremony, he delivered a fiery speech, calling on Russians to regard new theories of social progress coming from the West as spiritua

Credit: AJay // Adobe Couples therapy sessions can be intense.  Sometimes the information we're made aware of during a session can be extremely overwhelming, and when it ends, we have the urge to retreat and temporarily withdraw from each other. Or we continue the conversation, only to have it spiral out of control.  In heated situations, it can be difficult to continue the typical everyday interactions we share with our partners, which can leave us feeling frustrated and disheartened. Why w e feel the need to withdraw In couples therapy, both partners purposefully explore the components of their relationship that aren't working and actively discuss the things they disagree on.  Talking openly about your communication style, lack of trust or physical intimacy puts an uncomfortable spotlight on these issues, said Atlanta-based Licensed Professional Counselor Mikela Hallmark. It can trigger feelings of frustration, anger and anxiety. For conflict-avoida

Marriage counseling can be an important tool in maintaining a healthy relationship. When both partners are committed to staying in the game and working through the issues, having a third party to help you through the ups and downs can be clutch. But what about when one or both parties is no longer sure that they want to stick around? Support in this moment is crucial as leaving a relationship can be one of the most difficult decisions you'll ever make. That's where discernment counseling comes in.  What Is Discernment Counseling? Discernment counseling is a guided process through which couples can thoughtfully decide, together, on the best next step in their relationship. I'm a Marriage Therapist—There's a Hidden Reason Couples Therapy Can Fail' - Newsweek

I've been a couples therapist in California for more than two decades, and in that time I've noticed how different couples approach therapy. Some people come in with their sleeves rolled up because they want to get to work finding resolution to their problems and others have sleeves rolled up so they can wear a pair of metaphorical boxing gloves—each is focused on winning their argument. Those who want to find resolution are usually more emotionally mature, they have done prior inner work and they have issues that are less deep-seated. The issues couples come to therapy with are most often what I'll call "Big P" reasons. The "P" here stands for problems, like an affair that just got uncovered, an addiction that is wreaking havoc or one person who wants to leave. These types of issues can be caused by underlying trauma but they can also cause trauma to one or both. The pandemic, in my mind, has been an example of this kind of "Big P" problem. CO

RELATED: 10 Most Romantic Elena Gilbert In The Vampire Diaries, Ranked Stefan's diary entries read more like a book than an actual journal, so it's not surprising that he has a way with words. As a skilled writer, Stefan always knew how to convey his innermost thoughts, and his quotes were especially romantic because they came straight from the heart
