More Anti-LGBTQ BS From Ken Paxton: Why did the attorney ... - Austin Chronicle

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton prepares to testify at a Texas Senate hearing in 2015 (photo by Jana Birchum) Attorney General Ken Paxton is at it again with initiatives that smack of fascism. The Washington Post broke the news this month that in June, Paxton's office asked the Texas Dept. of Public Safety to gather a list of all Texans who changed the gender on their driver's licenses in the past two years. That request – made a month after the Texas Supreme Court ruled that Paxton and Gov. Greg Abbott overreached in trying to investigate families with transgender children for child abuse – was answered, but not with the list the A.G. asked for. Ask an advisor: Does my client need a financial planner or a ... - Financial Planning

Image
Welcome back to "Ask an Advisor," the advice column where real financial professionals answer questions from real people. The topic can be anything in the world of finance, from retirement to taxes to wealth management — or even advice on advising. This week, we're taking a different approach: Our question comes not from an investor, but from an advisor. As various advisors responded, one term that came up again and again was "financial infidelity." While definitions vary, the term generally refers to a situation where someone lies or keeps secrets about money from their significant other. It's a behavior that can break relationships —

Just friends: This author wants us to rethink the way we view platonic love - CBC.ca

The phrase "just friends" carries an unspoken message: romantic relationships trump platonic ones. Author Marisa Franco wants to flip that relationship and put friendship on top. She examined this hierarchy of love in her book Platonic: How the Science of Attachment Can Help You Make — And Keep — Friends. "Now often we see friendship as like romance but with something subtracted," Franco told Tapestry host Mary Hynes. "That's why we say things like, 'You can become more than friends' or 'We're just friends.' Whereas in the past, the fact that friendships weren't sexual was a sign of how deep and how sacred they are." Franco, a psychologist and professor at the University of Maryland, shared what she's learned through her extensive research on friendship, and its role in our lives. Here is part of her conversation with Tapestry host Mary Hynes. If you can take us back quite a few ages here, quite a few eons — how has the valu

Leo and Scorpio Compatibility: Are They a Good Match in Love and Friendship? - Yahoo Life

Image
Leo and Scorpio are both fixed signs, meaning they are each loyal and determined in their respective pursuits. While this relationship won't be without its challenges, fiery Leo and watery Scorpio's compatibility can be perfect for love and friendship. To learn more about Leo and Scorpio as a match, keep reading. Leo Zodiac Sign Characteristics Leos — born between July 23rd and August 22nd — are strong-willed individuals. They love to be the center of attention, but they also want to feel appreciated. A Leo man or Leo woman needs to be given a lot of praise for all their hard work, so they don't become resentful — and I'd definitely warn against ignoring or taking them for granted. All of the fire signs need to live life on their own terms, and Leo is no exception; as such, they often act impulsively without thinking about the consequences. Leos are very competitive and strive to win in whatever they do — but when things don't go their way, they tend to sulk or thro
