Seneca Co. working to upgrade Children and Family Services building - WTVG
SENECA Co., Ohio (WTVG) - Seneca County is currently looking to give its children and family services building a new makeover.
Seneca County Children and Family Services is working with the county commissioner's office to give the agency a new space.
"They come into the agency and they have to walk through ugh the building to get to the spot where we're working and you know that can be a little intimidating for a child," Kathy Oliver, the director of Seneca County Jobs and Family Services said.
Oliver said she got the idea from Wood County's Child Visitation Building.
"I thought it was really nice and we thought hey wouldn't it be nice it'd be more child-friendly and family-friendly," Oliver said.
Oliver said she wants the new building to be warm and welcoming for the children. To make them more comfortable when making such a large transition.
The new building will be fully dedicated to the Children and Family Services Division of Seneca County.
"Sometimes we need to interview children with law enforcement and so that would be a dedicated space to do that and we could also do foster parent training there training for our new staff family meetings and those sorts of things," Oliver said.
Along with other amenities like; a kitchen to teach older kids independent living skills, bathrooms with showers, and a washer and dryer so they can wash kids' clothes before they move on to their placement.
Seneca County Commissioner Bill Frankart said that they were completely on board when Oliver approached the commissioners with the proposal.
"I think it's a fantastic program to look at you know we want to be concerned with the child's safety and families," Frankart said.
both Oliver and Frankart said the project is currently in its infant stages but they are looking forward to giving the children and families a new space.
