17-year-old filmmaker in Louisville shows first film 'Real Love' at Chestnut Street YMCA - WDRB

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 17-year-old in Louisville was busy hosting his own movie premiere on Saturday.

LaJuan Odom is the writer, producer and director of the short film "Real Love," which showcases the journey of mental health. The film premiered at Chestnut Street YMCA in the Russell neighborhood. It was showed as part of a partnership with AMPED Louisville, which empowers youth to use music and technology through free programs.

It took Odom around five months to work on a script. He then put out a casting call on social media and at his school The film was shot in a couple days, but Odom hopes people pay attention to the film's message.

"As a person who myself who has gone through struggles of depression and suicidal thoughts at one point in my life I knew I had to tell some sort of story to connect with people to know they are not alone," said Odom.
